The table illustrates rail transport in four countries—Malaysia, Canada, China, and the UAE—in 2007.
Overall, China stood out with consistently higher numbers than other countries in terms of people using rail transport and passenger kilometers per head of population. In contrast, Canada had exhibited relatively lower figures in these categories, despite dominating in cargo.
In 2007, China had the highest rail users, accounting for 27. While the number of people using rail transportation in Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates experienced almost similar numbers, with 5.9 and 5.5, respectively, the figure for Canada was the lowest, with 0.3 people. Regarding passenger kilometers per head of population, China maintained its dominance, at1980, while Malaysia and the UAE were the second-largest, with corresponding figures of 780 and 770.
However, cargo changed the trend. In 2007, the cargo carried by rail transport in Canada exhibited a markedly greater number than other countries, with 28.20, followed closely by China with 23.01, and Malaysia with 22.2. The figure for the United Arab Emirates showed a slightly lower difference than other countries, at 21.9.
