The table demonstrates the average distance that adults traveled by different types of transportation in 1997 and 2007
Overall, it can be seen from the figure that many types of travel slightly decreased except for car, taxi and train, some of which witnessed a huge increase. The longest annual distance traveled by adults was by car in 2007, while the lowest was by bicycle also in 2007.
Firstly, buses had the biggest reduction, from an average of 800 miles per year to only 500 miles. Next to it was traveling on foot, where adults walked 100 less miles annually compared to 10 years ago. Both cycling and riding motorcycles had 100 miles on average in 1997, but were shrunk to 80 and 90 miles in 2007, respectively.
On the other hand, the average distance covered by cars doubled in just a decade, from 3500 miles to 7100 miles, while that for cabs quadrupled, from 200 miles to 800 miles. In contrast, trains only had a modest growth, from 900 miles to 1000 miles annually.
