The table illustrates how the percentage of workforce worked in six different Australian industries changed between 1989 and 2009. Overall, most employers worked in manufacturing in 1989, while people who worked in tourism showed the least proportions. In addition, only manufacturing and retail industries followed downward trend.
In 1989, manufacturing industry was the leader in workforce with 15% of share. Followed by retail, this figures were equal to 11.8%. But, workforce share of both these industries declined to around 10% by 2009.
However, other industries followed opposite trend, health care accounted for 9.6% of share and increased to 11.3% in 2009, showing the highest figures in the table. Meanwhile, construction and education fields were at 7.6% and 6.8% in 1989. When the 2009 came, these figures changed to 8.3% and 7.5%, showing a little increase. Finally, 5.5% of Australian workers employed in the field of tourism and they increased to 7.3%.
