The tables illustrate the amount of students originated from other countries studying in Canada and USA in the years 2002 and 2003, along with the percentage changes.
Overall, it is evident that while the majority of the international students prefered USA for their studies, the proportion of changes were more significant in case of Canada.
In 2002, a total of 59,870 students studied in Canadian universities which mostly comprised of 5,400 Chinese students, 5,000 were from the USA, while only 2,100 belonged to India. In the subsequent year, the proportions were raised for all the nationalities, especially the Chinese which saw an increase of 45% students (7,850 studying). This increase was followed by the students from USA and India as well, 9% and 35%, respectively. The concluded change was of about 17% in total.
In regards to the USA, there was a overwhelming amount of international students in both the year, yet the percentage changes were minimal. Students already residing in the country mostly studied there, 200,000 in the year 2002 and 182,000 in the following year. Around 110,000 Chinese students studied in American universities in both years, whereas, the number was just about 31,000 for the Indian students. The total amount of students was 581,600 in 2002 and 592,000 in the year 2003. The changes in nationalities and their numbers remained around 2% to 9%.
