The bar chart illustrates the proportion of fuel from renewable energy used in the transport sector in six European Union nations between 2009 and 2010.
Overall, there was an increase in most countries, except for Australia, and Slovakia witnessed a reversed trend, and France remained unchanged over the period, which contributed a slight increase to the European Union average. Additionally, Slovakia recorded the highest amount of fuel used in transport, while Greece had the lowest figure during the period.
At the outset of the survey, around 9% of fuel consumption in Slovakia’s transport sector was recorded in 2009, after which it declined slightly to below 8% in 2010.
Similar changes can be seen in the figure for Australia, which decreased from about 6.5% in 2009 to over 5% in 2010. Meanwhile, France’s percentage remained stable, at just 6.1% over the period.
Regarding the remaining categories that increased, the figures for Poland and Spain documented a substantial growth, which ranged from 5% and 3.5% in 2009 to around 6% and under 5% in 2010, respectively. Noticeably, Greece started at 1.1% in 2009, which almost doubled to 2% in 2010. Moreover, the European average rose moderately from 4.1% in 2009 to under 5% in the last year, reflecting the general upward trend across the majority of countries.
