The pie charts compare the proportions of visitors from the USA to Canada across five age groups in 2000 and 2020.
Overall, people aged 35-54 accounted for the largest share of visitors in both years, although their proportion declined significantly over the period. In contrast, the percentages of visitors aged 16-24 and 55 and over increased noticeably.
In 2000, half of all visitors belonged to the 35-54 age group, making it by far the most dominant category. This was followed by those aged 25-34, who represented 20% of visitors. The figures for the 55+ and 0-15 groups were relatively lower, at 16% and 10% respectively. By comparison, young adults aged 16-24 made up only 4%, the smallest proportion among all age groups.
By 2020, the percentage of visitors aged 35-54 had fallen considerably to 35%, although it remained the largest group. The proportion of visitors aged 55 and over rose markedly from 16% to 26%, making it the second-largest category. Similarly, the share of the 16-24 age group increased almost fourfold to 15%. Meanwhile, the percentages of visitors aged 0-15 and 25-34 stood at 12% each in 2020.
