The picture illustrates the process of desalination of seawater in order to produce fresh water.
Overall, the process consists of several stages. They include pre-treatment, the filtration of seawater through a membrane and the following chemical treatment, meanwhile salt returns to the sea.
Firstly, through the intake salt water is transferred from the sea to the pre-treatment filter. At this stage, one part of water is pumped through the filter backwash back to the sea, and the other part is forced further towards the membrane at high pressure. The membrane serves as a filter that excludes salt from getting to the post-treatment reservoir due to the structure that allows only water molecules to pass through. Remaining seawater concentrate discharges back to the sea through pipes. After filtering, water is transferred to a reservoir with lime chlorine and fluoride for further purification before going to the storage.
Finally, filtered and treated water from the storage is transferred to integrated water supply system for further usage and consumption.
