In the modern era, the application of technology, especially computer, into educational landscape has noticeably changed the people’s, generally students and teachers, experiences and mindset. However, it is undeniable the performance of instructors in the classroom, who offers diverse knowledge towards learners. So, the advancement of technology like computer will soon render teachers obsolete in the classroom is viewpoint I strongly disagree with. The presence of the mentors in the classroom is crucial for several reasons, which are as follows:
Firstly, mentors play a paramount role in developing students’ social and emotional skills, something that computers cannot replicate. Teachers, for example, can identify and address individual student needs, provide tailored feedback, and foster a supportive learning environment. This personal interaction is vital in nurturing students’ confidence and motivation.
Secondly, although machines are great tools for providing access to a large amount of data, they lack the ability to create a context of that information, and also it cannot make comprehensible data. Teachers, through their experience and expertise, can contextualize data, making it relevant and comprehensible for pupils. For example, in a history lesson, a computer can provide facts, but a teacher can stimulate a discussion on the causes and consequences of historical events, making the learning process more meaningful.
Moreover, the effective use of technology in education often requires guidance and commands from teachers. They play a crucial role in integrating technology into the curriculum, choosing appropriate digital tools. A teacher can guide, for instance, students in using educational software, and applying digital skills in practical way.
In conclusion, while computers are valuable educational tools, they cannot replace the role of instructors in the classroom. Teachers are essential for providing a comprehensive, contextual that goes beyond mere information transmission, making them irreplaceable in the educational landscape.
