For some people, it is believed that only governments are in charge of protecting the environment since individuals do not have enough power to solve these problems. Personally, I partly agree with this statement.
Undoubtedly, there are many pressing environmental issues that go beyond the abilities of individuals to deal with. In order for serious problems, such as global warming, plastic waste crisis, prolonged droughts and other extremely harsh weather events, it requires the efforts of politicians and large environmental organisations. This is because solving such problems need a great deal of of special equipments, modern technological devices and well-trained scientists, thereby demanding large funds and resources of the government. On the other hand, awareness of reducing and solving environmental pollution among people could just be raised if the government pays attention and implements suitable policies and strict supervision. To be more specific, citizens would be emboldened to protect their surroundings altogether when they are environmentally conscious thanks to the education and the propaganda of the government. Furthermore, people would consider the consequences more seriously because of tight environmental regulations as well.
Notwithstanding some of these facts, individuals also need to take responsibility for environmental protection. The foremost reason is that if everyone keep on not being aware of potential threats of environmental pollution and taking no actions, the ability of politicians cannot be used efficiently. For example, if farmers go on burning forests for their own benefits, regardless of the government’s prohibition, the problem of climate change will never be mitigated. In addition, citizens can help in various ways, including recycling more and buying more energy-efficient household items, planting more trees and avoiding disposable plastic products. As a result, whole society will successfully tackle and hinder detrimental effects on our surroundings.
In conclusion, I firmly opine that protecting environment is the responsibility of both government and its citizens since the cooperation of either is indispensible. Precisely, it is the obligation of both of them.
