It is often said that government bodies should prioritize building railway systems instead of roads. However, I completely disagree with this statement and will outline my reasons below.
First and foremost, governments should allocate more funds to the construction of roads because they are accessible to both public and private vehicles, while trains often operate solely under government control. Additionally, roads connect all parts of the world, whether they traverse mountains, landscapes, or deserts. For instance, in mountainous countries like Nepal, where more than half of the land is covered with mountains and hills, constructing roads is far more beneficial than developing a railway system.
On the other hand, roads serve as the primary source of transportation, allowing access to every corner of the globe. Economically speaking, roads are generally more cost-effective compared to railway tracks. Furthermore, roads are accessible to all types of vehicles, while railways limit access to trains. For example, in a developing country like Nepal, which has a constrained budget, it is often impractical to develop a railway system and thus relies heavily on foreign aid.
Despite roads being the main mode of transportation today, they may not be as fast as trains, which can efficiently save both time and money.
In conclusion, governments should focus a significant portion of their budget on building roads rather than railway systems, as roads are more economical and accessible to everyone.
