In many countries, higher education is funded by student themselves, while in others, the government covers university expenses for student. From my perspective, government funded education has more advantage sides than disadvantages.
On the one hand, the first plus point about it is that government funded education has a great impact on peoples financial circumstance, from time to time some families cannot afford to educate their children for certain financial issues. This time government’s beneficial education programs play an essential role, for instance some ministries should organize local and international (especially, we mostly face developed countries) scholarship programs for students. Furthermore this education policy’s other positive aspect is preparing highly qualified individuals for state’s future as well as world, for example the government is able to focus on needed vital fields, such as international relations, economics, technology and public administration for scholar programs, in the todays world, we can clearly see this action, for instance Stipendium Hungary, Erasmus+ and different types of state scholarships.
On the other hand, this can also produce unfavorable circumstances. One minus side of this policy is that government’s this action can cause some social problems, such as social, financial and political inequality, for example while some families educate their children, some family cannot afford. This option completely impact on social sustainability. Moreover, other negative aspect of this policy is that this policy might lead to greater dependency among students later on and they are obliged to work which they do not love doing it.
In consequence, in spite of some demerits, I deem that they are outweighed by merits such as vital scholarship programs for students and preparing advanced individuals on various field
