Several proponents believe that judges should provide the same punishment for the same crimes, while many opponents claim that punishment should be considered differently depending on the particular crimes. In the subsequent paragraphs, I will examine both perspectives and provide my own view as well.
Due to the fact that people have their own biases, judges might decide crimes’ consequnces based on their own perspective, leading to unfair punishment. To solve these issues, the governments must provide strict and clear penalties for the same type of crime, referring solely to criminal actions. For instance, according to the news, there are several unfair judgments occurring when wealthy people commit crime. If high reputation individuals commit the same crime with the normal class, they should receive the same penalties as others. Their financial status should not be included in order to minimize their punishments.
On the other hand, in some cases, punishment should be based on circumstances. Some crime commiters might commit crime because it is the only solution to survive, such as robbery. There are various reasons that lead people to rob. For example, while one poor person robs medicines in order to recover his or her physical conditions, another person robs the same things but in order to poison someone. These two people should not receive the same penalties due to the different reasons for committing crimes.
From my own perspective, I believe that crime penalties should be referred to that particular incident, and juries should judge by using compassion to preserve an equal society.
