Moving into the 21st century, many individuals are spending much time travelling to work or school. So, many people think that this is a negative development because it may lead to physical and mental health problems, while others argue that there are several advantages like they can spend their time for productivity or self-improvement. This essay will examine both sides before presenting my own opinion in the following paragraphs with relevant reasons.
To begin with, nowadays, many professionals and students are busy with their work and studies. They usually use public transportation such as buses, trains, and taxis for travelling, which takes a lot of time. Many people are working far away from their homes; it becomes necessary for them to spend a huge amount of time commuting. As a result, spending long hours travelling can cause stress, tiredness, and lack of sleep. People may feel exhausted and anxious before reaching work or school. For instance, a person who spends two or three hours daily commuting in heavy traffic may feel drained and mentally stressed, which can reduce their performance and productivity at work or school.
On the other hand, there are several benefits of travelling for a longer time. Firstly, individuals can use travel time to read books, listen to podcasts, prepare materials, or plan their day; which helps them to avoid end time plannings. Secondly, people can get a chance to socialize with other people, which allows to broaden knowledge and helps to stay connected with the community. For example, an employee who travels long hours by train can listen to professional interviews, plan daily tasks, respond to emails, or build new connections with colleagues during the journey.
In conclusion, although long travel affects people’s physical and mental health, it also helps improve new skills and strengthen relationships. Therefore, in my opinion, this development is mostly positive.
