Band 6+: Many students around the world don't choose science subjects at university. Give the reasons for this and describe the impacts on the community?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many highschool graduates prefer not to study a scientific subject at university. The reason behind this phenomenon could be due to personal preferences. This, in time, will reduce the number of pioneers, innovators, and educational figures in general. This essay will discuss the reason many students avoid picking a science subject for their bachelors, masters, or even PhD and what that means for the future of our society.

To simply put it, students may be more invested in other more artistic subjects. For example, a highschooler could have had years worth of classes on history and developed a passion for it overtime. This is natural and will, of course, result in them picking a major related to history. Colleges of art, business, or law have school kids that selected similar subjects for their electives during highschool and grew attached to them. Therefore, it is easy to conclude that thier interest simply lies elsewhere.

As a consequence of this though, the number of scientific figures will decline in our communities. Scientific scholars pave the world of technology and engineering, two subjects that are at the core of everything manmade. Transportation, buildings, and all institutes are what build up our nations. However, their invention and improvement relies on pupils choosing a scientific subject for any further education they get. This is because it is these pupils that will become innovators in their major of choise and lead to humans advancing as a whole. In their absence, civilizations will start advancing backwards.

In conclusion, academics major in a non scientifc area because they enjoy it more. Although this means they are getting careers in what they love, it also means cities and countries as a whole loose the scientific pioneers they need. They can’y grow and provide practical means of living for their inhabitants without them.
