Band 6+: Many young people who leave school hold a negative attitude towards learning. Why does this happen and what are the solutions?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Modern-day educators have struggled for years with the conundrum / dilemma (negative situation with no solutions yet) of students feeling lukewarm towards learning, with this attitude persisting even beyond graduation. 2. ANSWER: There are many reasons for this phenomenon, as well as potential solutions to tackle them.

On the one hand, people’s less-than-savory feeling towards learning can be attributed to the sub-standard school infrastructure in many countries, resulting in environments that are not conducive to learning. Students who had to endure tumultuous years of schooling without proper science equipment or essential classroom facilities, such as video projectors and computer labs, more often than not left school unprepared for the workforce. Another cause of this is the low quality of education, primarily due to a lack of teacher training. The majority of teachers, especially those in developing nations, continue to exhibit a severe lack of professional methodology and with years of such inadequacy compounded, it is inevitable that students are left frustrated, bored and exhausted in equal measures.

To tackle the issue at hand, one possible solution is for schools to collaborate with educational institutions outside of their own regions. In fact, schools in many developing countries have been proactive in adapting tried and true curricula from US or UK-based institutions, which allows them to remain relevant in the age of globalization – something their graduates may appreciate in the long run if they are to be employed in international firms. A further measure is to hire educators with a more modern view of teaching. By employing people that are younger, communicative and well-versed in modern technology, not only will students be engaged in the classroom, but they may also find lifelong friends in their teachers even after graduation.

In conclusion, I believe that the problem of people bearing a negative mindset towards learning from their time in school can be traced back to the lack of quality of the infrastructure and the teaching staff, but it can be mitigated by putting in place relevant solutions. Ultimately, every government needs to make timely changes, as education has the power to define generations.
