Band 7+: More and more people are becoming seriously overweight. Some people think that the best solution is to increase the price of fattening foods.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

As obesity rates continue to rise, some people assume that increasing the price of high-fat food might be the solution. From my standpoint, while this approach potentially helps, it is important to consider other factors rather than the economic ones.

Raising the price of fattening foods can help reduce obesity by making them less affordable. When prices go up, people always seek cheaper alternatives, which can include healthier options such as fruits or vegetables. By doing this we can improve dietary habits and lower obesity rates over time. Besides that, the extra revenue from these price increases could be used to support public health campaigns and fund programs that make nutritious foods more accessible to everyone. Therefore, this approach could create a healthier overall environment and encourage people to make better food choices.

Nevertheless, this strategy also causes significant challenges. For many low-income families, calorie-dense foods are often affordable options. Increasing prices could make it even harder for these families to access nutritious food, potentially worsening food insecurity. Moreover, fatness is influenced by many factors beyond diet, such as genetics, lifestyle, and social circumstances. Simply increasing food prices may not address these underlying issues. To be truly effective, a comprehensive approach is needed.

In summary, while increasing the price of fattening foods might help encourage healthier eating habits, it is not a complete solution. To make a real difference, this measure should be part of all factors contributing to obesity. By combining price adjustments with educational efforts and improved access to healthy food, we can work towards a healthier future for everyone.
