Nowadays, many individuals have experienced work-life balance problems that make their stress levels increase. In this brief essay, I will elaborate on several factors that have contributed to this phenomenon, as well as the measures that might be implemented to tackle them.
First and foremost, many people do not have good time management skills. They become too ambitious and tend to spend most of their time doing their job, without paying attention to their mental health. For example, in Indonesia, there have been some celebrities who have mental problems due to the hectic shooting schedule. Even in many cases, they only have a very minimum sleeping hours every day. In my opinion, this problem should be addressed by recruiting someone to be their managers so that the managers can arrange their agenda in the best possible way. By having assistants, they do not need to set their own agenda and their professional and personal lives can be more balanced.
In addition, excessive working hours also can lead to increased stress among many employees. This is because in several companies, they prioritize only achievement and sales. To illustrate, those who work in textile production must do their job within more than 10 hours each day. Moreover, this could take their personal time that they can actually allocate to do self-care activities such as exercise, picnic with family, and many others. One possible solution to combat this problem is by asking the government to produce a stricter working hour regulation. The rules then can help the employees to get their right (having sufficient time to take a rest and to do recreational activities).
To sum up, there are two main reasons for people getting issues with work-life balance, including the lack of time management skill and too much working hours. Those factors might be tackled by recruiting people who can assist them in setting their agenda, and the government should provide wise and firm regulations that are necessary to ensure that employees work within reasonable working hours.
