Band 6+: Some consumers are increasingly choosing to buy goods that are produced in their local area, rather than imported goods. What are the reasons for this? Is this a positive or a negative trend?

In today’s modern era, a growing trend leads to some consumer purchasing more goods that are produced by their nation, rather than abroad one. I believe that this phenomenon stems from people’s tendency to support their local manufactures, which can potentially contribute to a reduction in unemployment rates in society. However, intensively reliance on local products can disconnect one from current technology.

To begin with, local products are adjusted with the heritage background of regions, connecting one to traditions and customs. This feature also resonates with their beliefs and values. Moreover, manufactures producing local goods offers a wide range of job opportunities to local residents. This assist in diminishing the rate of unemployment and increasing life expectancy in community. A pertinent example is Japan, where after ww2, governments decided to support only their products and restricted imports. This measures not only have become Japan as a prior in technology but also have conveyed its community to a vibrant one. Hence, supporting of local product can set a nation on a path of continuous growth and connect people to their history.

Nonetheless, persistence on local goods can deprive one of experiencing modern facilities such as modern cars, smartphones and kitchen appliance. These features make life more delightful and easy. In addition, certain products can enhance the quality of local goods by increasing competition among companies. For instance, in Iran, lawmakers have limited import of vehicles in order to promote local car companies such as Saipa. Nevertheless, it has provided serious challenges not only for people but also for country, including increased air pollution and consumption of fossil fuels. As a result, it is imperative to consider that excessive dependence on local products can pose a cycle of harmful consequences for society.

To sum up, in my opinion, although buying local products offers more benefits for the society, which ensures its development in the future, overusing of them can prevent one from modern amenities, which eases life and provide more unique moments. Consequently, it is essential to create a harmonious balance between utilizing overseas and local goods.
