There are dividing views over livability of certain cities. Some people believe that pollution and overcrowdedness will eventually make cities abandoned, while others argue that technological advancements will help to prevent the matter. Although, two issues listed above can be a spark for leaving, I think that it can be overcome by applying more rational use of technology.
To begin with, humankind always searches for comfort, as to why there is a trend of moving to metropolises. There might be several reasons for that, the first for which is more developed transportation system and the other one is that in urban areas more opportunities for job can be found. All these attaracts people all over the world, so people can even migrate to the city from hundreds of kilometers away just to dwell there. This, in turn, causes a phenomen called overcrowdedness, and the population of such cities is usually above then in most countries not mentioning individually cities. Tokyo can be the perfect example, since its population exceeds the population of any Central Asian country. Serving demands of such a large amount of people would unavoidably lead to pollution in the area. Be it a carbon dioxide generated from vihicle of citizens or toxic gases emetted by huge factories willing to cover the arised local demand. Given this, I can conclude that it is matter of time once the life in such place will become too difficult.
However, using technology may slow down or even stop the process. Currently, we are in the point of evolution when our kind is able to produce fuel from its own waste, in other words, from rubbish or trash. For example, the female scientist from Africa created a machine which processes the plastic and other garbage and in return gives liquid fuel also called biofuel. Such fuel can reduce some part of green house gases emission, as the particular logistics company illustrated it, using only biofuel in its vehicle. As they report 30% of the emission of the gases had been cut since the implementation. Technology can facilitate in reduction of not only pollution, but also overpopulation. Technology allows to work remotely, which possibly makes people lose enthusiasm over migration. This is because if they already have the job of their dream, they do not have to persuade the big cities.
To conclude, technology which really prevents such problem exists, nonetheless, it is not applied in needed proportions and appropriately. I assume that the fact that the above mentioned cities are not just overpopulated and polluted, but also developed may indicate that their government is able to cope with an abandonment.
