Some individuals declare that music is a great way of bringing individuals of various civilizations and age groups together. To some extent, I agree with this opinion for some reasons, but I still believe that there are other aspects to consider.
On the one hand, there are two reasons why I agree with those who think a mix of cultures is beneficial. First of all, music can bring cultural traditions together. Music is the crossroads of cultures. Every nation has its own songs, rhythm, instruments, and musical traditions, and when they meet, new, classical mixtures form. When different nationalities hear music together, they feel not only national songs but also others’ history, values, and way of life. This is very clear in the modern world. For example, the fusion of African drums, Western electronic rhythms, and Eastern melodies has given rise to a new genre called “world music.”
On the other hand, music is a bridge between generations. Youths and adults usually listen to various music, and they hold different traditions, but music is a rare event that can bring them together at one point. For instance, parents show children who listen to music themselves and tell stories about the past. It helps them understand the feelings of parents. Thus, music is a cause of family communication, memory, and mutual understanding.
In conclusion, I have mixed opinions about the discussed topic, and certain cases could be true for specific circumstances. That is why holding a firm opinion about it is more difficult than it seems, and balance should be the priority in my view.
