The topic of retirement age is often debated, as some people believe that having the same retirement age for everyone is unfair. In India, the idea of a fixed retirement age is a topic that comes up regularly. Some believe that everyone should retire at 65 years. However, I strongly feel that different professions should have different retirement ages.
Some jobs, like those of clerks, teachers, and bank managers, require experienced workers. For instance, in teaching, age should not decide when someone should retire because older people often bring valuable experience. Many believe that learning from older people is better because they have gained wisdom over the years. For example, I have seen that many professors with PhDs are hired at universities and colleges after spending years studying. It usually takes 5 to 8 years to complete a PhD after finishing school, so they start their careers later than other workers, like those in the IT industry, who begin earning and receiving promotions much earlier. If professors were forced to retire at a set age, they would have little time to grow in their career, even though they have a lot to contribute.
On the other hand, jobs that are physically demanding or involve high risks, like firefighters, police officers, and military personnel, should have earlier retirement ages. These jobs require workers to be in good physical shape, and as people age, it becomes harder to keep up with the physical demands. As a result, these workers should be allowed to retire before they reach their 60s, and a pension should be provided to help support them after they stop working.
In conclusion, having the same retirement age for everyone is not fair. Some jobs require workers to stay physically fit, while other jobs value experience and knowledge. Different professions should have different retirement ages, allowing people to continue working as long as they are capable, while others can retire earlier if their job demands it.
