Today, there is an increase in people living in big cities. People think that big cities bring more work opportunities and higher incomes. However, some individuals believe that people’s health is negatively affected when living in urban areas. In my opinion, living in these areas is harmful than beneficial to people.
It is widely believed that the issue of environmental pollution in cities is more severe than rural areas, for example, air pollution. This is often caused by overpopulation and traffic congestion. The air quality is severely affected due to the excessive carbon emission. As a result, residents living in urban areas are frequently troubled by cardiopulmonary problems, such as asthma, pneumonia or bronchitis. Additionally, some people may choose to neglect their illness and this can worsen their medical problems. Therefore, more medical attentions are required.
Secondly, living in these areas may affect people’s mental health. Employees often overwork due to high costs of living. Long hours of work may increase their stress, leading to mental health issues like depression, anxiety, or panic disorder. Additionally, overwork could lead to irregular eating habits and lack and sleep, which further worsening their mental wellness.
To sum up, living in urban areas impacts people’s physical health negatively. Firstly, it may cause cardiopulmonary disease like asthma due to overpopulation and traffic congestion. Furthermore, it influences people’s well-being and mental wellness due to high costs of living and overwork. Therefore, governments should look into these issues and address them effectively. This is important to reduce the burden of the healthcare system.
