There is no doubt that students should study subjects that will be useful for their future careers, while others believe that students should also study subjects they are interested in. This essay will discuss both views before explaining why I believe studying favourite subjects can also be beneficial.
On the one hand, one reason why students should study subjects related to their future careers is that it helps them get jobs more easily. Nowadays, competition among employees is extremely high because of overpopulation. For example, many companies try to employ workers who have strong knowledge and professional skills. Furthermore, another reason is that it reduces the time spent on unnecessary subjects. This means that students can focus more on subjects which may be useful in the future. For instance, future bankers, instead of spending valuable time on drawing, may practise mathematics in order to improve their academic performance.
On the other hand, one reason why students should study subjects they are interested in is that it improves creativity. Jobs such as IT and management require people to be creative because creativity helps employees work in teams and improve communication skills. For example, bosses in large companies are often interested in creative employees because they are usually resourceful and able to cooperate effectively with others. Moreover, another reason is that studying favourite subjects increases motivation. This is because young people feel more motivated when they participate in activities they enjoy. For example, hardworking students may feel relaxed and motivated after activities such as drawing or swimming, which can also help them stay healthy.
In conclusion, although practical subjects are important for improving academic performance and future career opportunities, I believe that students should also have the freedom to study subjects they enjoy.
