Certain individuals are of the opinion that the government should invest in libraries in every town, thereby increasing the level of education and making it accessible for population of all ages. Others argue that this is unnecessary, since the internet has become accessible to almost everyone, regardless of their location. This essay will discuss both views and present my personal opinion.
On the one hand, I agree that libraries should be made available to everyone. However, it is important to note that not everyone has access to digital devices or stable internet.For example, when I was around 13 or 14, I lived in a small town and did not have a phone or access to the internet. The local public library was free and became a valuable source of information and inspiration. I used it for school projects and read books that helped me grow personally. Without it, I would have missed out on many learning opportunities. Moreover, maintaining libraries involves considerable expenses, such as staff salaries, utilities, and updating materials. Critics argue that this funding could be directed toward more urgent areas, such as healthcare or infrastructure.
In conclusion, although the internet has become a powerful tool for accessing information, I believe that libraries still play a vital role, especially for individuals who lack access to digital technology. Therefore, I support the idea of establishing free libraries in every town as a means to promote equal educational opportunities and community engagement.
