Some individuals believe that the government should allocate necessary support for local artists from various fields such as visual artists, performers, and literary artists while others argue that this is misuse of public funds. Whereas investing money on the military, healthcare and education is important, I strongly believe that funding the local artists is equally valuable for the benefit of the country’s cultural identity.
On one hand, funding the armed forces and the education sector is significant for a country’s overall development. In some developed nations, public expenditures on the military and the education sectors contributes to higher student achievement and leads to higher GPAs. National defense is crucial for maintaining security and political stability, which are fundamental for a country’s survival and prosperity. Particularly in developing countries, many factors such as poverty, unemployment, and inadequate medical services need financial security from the government. For example, government expenditure on healthcare and rural education in India has been instrumental in enhancing literacy rates and decreasing infant mortality.
On the other hand, in my opinion, supporting funds on artistic activities is also vital in preserving a nation’s cultural identity. Without financial assistance from a government, many talented individuals may struggle to continue their works, which could lead to gradual decline in cultural richness. The art industries can also promote tourism, exhibitions, and cultural exchanges. Some artists should portray their arts under guidelines without offending other cultures and religious beliefs because art has the power to influence public opinion and social change. For example, the Korean government encourages its local artists in producing creative works such as K-pop, which generates substantial revenue through tourism and cultural exports.
In conclusion, although some people consider government funding for artists a misuse of funds, I believe that is a valuable investment to boost a country’s economy and cultural sustainability.
