It has been suggested that individuals who travel to foreign countries are more open-minded and sympathetic towards others. From my point of view, I do not completely agree with this statement, as being empathetic and understanding are based on engagements and person’s character.
First of all, it is unbelievable that everybody gains abilities such as tolerance, worldview during journey. Moreover, simply visiting a foreign country does not necessarily mean that people will be interested in learning about its traditions and values. From my perspective, it can vary according to their activities. A group of people may be reluctant to communicate with native ones. Due to that they are not able to learn or discuss anything thus their consideration cannot be raised. For examle, if someone spends time at only places where established for tourists, will not be able to acquire culture.
Secondly, the character and mindset are an essential factor to take into account, as individual can be sympathetic and broad-minded without travelling. In addition it is also crucial that where a person come from, because families take a key part on their kids’ character. Therefore, people who are naturally curious and respectful may become more understanding even if they have never travelled abroad. For instance, if anyone has family members who are not strict and narrow-minded, they will be open to different ideas, views and stereotypes.
In conclusion, although visiting to places can affect to particular abilities, nevertheless it is not the only one. Some skills rely on actions and character.
