Band 6+: Some scientists believe that in the future computers will be more intelligent than human beings. While some see this as a positive development others worry about the negative consequences. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the contemporary era, computers have gradually become more and more intelligent, which easily surpasses the ability of humanity. This sparked a discussion about whether this phenomenon will be a beneficial development or a detrimental threat. This essay will elaborate on both arguments and explain why I endorse the possibility of the former notion.

Advocates for the risks of future computers being smarter support their claim via an understandable justification. The growth of robots’s intelligence can lead to an alerting level of unemployment in the future. This is due to the gradual replacement of modern and handy technologies in various occupations. To illustrate, in China, with the instalment of autopilot vehicles, many taxi drivers become jobless when cars can now move by its system. These growing jobless individuals may then no longer be able to fulfil their demands, which consequently results in the increase of social unrest.

Turning to the contrary side, I firmly hold the belief in the feasible advantages that intelligent computers can bring to civilians. Knowledgeable technologies can assist humans in catastrophe prediction and numerous life-threatening occupations. For example, computers can record the movement of the Earth, oceans and volcanoes to anticipate possible natural disasters, which can help people to be early evacuated, and mitigate the number of deaths. Moreover, as machines have no feeling of exhaustion, they can continuously work in a consistent time period. This is very beneficial in industries related to production since they can create more products, and increase productivity and profits.

In conclusion, it is totally understandable why people worry about the growth of future computers when it can heighten the unemployment rate. However, its effectiveness in calculations, assistance in dangerous jobs and increasing productivity can make it a positive development for humanity. Meanwhile, the scientists alongside the government must not only develop the ability of artificial intelligence but also find the solutions to tackle the issues of its development.
