Over the time period, both the quantity of shops that closed and new shops experienced the fluctuation. Additionally, the total number of show openings declined more than that closures.
The number of closing shop slightly fell to 6000 before it peaked at 7000 by 2012. The period from 2013 and 2015, however, witnessed a dramatically downward trend in shops that closed, and finally reached its lowest point by 2015, with less than 1000 shops. The shop closures recovered to roughly 5000 and remained relatively stable until 2018.
In 2011, the number of opening shops was more than that in closures, but there was a sharply reduct in the following year, and the amount of new shops was overtook by closures. A steadily rise was saw in opening shops between 2012 and 2014, and it gradually fell and dropped to bottom point at the end of period, only with 3000 new shops by 2018.
