Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 8+: The world should have only one government rather than a national government for each country. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, it has been believed by some that the world would be better governed by a single global administration rather than having a separate national government for each country. This essay is going to examine the merits and the demerits of such an issue and argue for why the latter is far more compelling.

On the one hand, having only one authority for the entire world could bring several significant benefits. One major benefit is that conflicts between countries could be significantly reduced because countries would no longer compete with one another for territory, natural resources, or external policies. As a result, a global government could establish common laws and solve disagreements by reconciling peacefully, thereby avoiding hostilities that could deplete natural resources and cause serious environmental pollution. Additionally, issues such as starvation, deforestation, crime or income inequality could be addressed more quickly and effectively if all nations followed a unified approach. For example, a single global authority could introduce common environmental regulations to control deforestation across different regions. Therefore, having a single global government would promote greater peace and allow global problems to be addressed in a more coordinated and effective manner.

Despite the discourse above, there are more persuasive reasons supporting why each country should have their own government. One major concern is the excessive concentration of power within a single governing body. This could lead to an abuse of authority, placing greater pressure on lower-level groups and making society become more unequal by widening the gap between different social classes. As a result, individuals with limited power may feel that they have little influence over important decisions, and gradually undervalue themselves. Another issue is the potential loss of cultural diversity. Each nation has its own history and rich cultural standards ; therefore merging all countries into common cultural standards could result in the erosion of long-established traditions and values. As people adapt to shared global standards in areas such as education, media, and governance, unique cultural practices may become less prominent over time. Therefore, despite continuous efforts, it would be difficult to preserve cultural identity without independent governance in each country.

In conclusion, despite the benefits of a single global government, maintaining separate national governments is a more suitable approach due to the risks of power concentration and cultural loss. It is recommended that countries should strengthen international cooperation while preserving their own political independence and cultural identities.

Many individuals hold the belief that children are being widely targeted by a large number of commercials, which negatively affects children’s development and therefore ought to be strictly banned.
