Band 6+: Today family members do not eat meals together. Is this a positive or negative trend?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Family meals, in today’s fast-paced era, are being held together less frequently as every member has a hectic schedule and is busy with work commitments. I think that this trend is arguably negative, resulting in weakened relationships and alienation.

As the demand for high-quality living standards requires people much more power, the majority number of people have to work more than their previous counterparts. This is because, in job competitive world, it is fairly challenging to work in the long term in a lucrative job. For this reason, people have to work under pressure, keeping a distance from their household, especially in the eating time since eating with family would take too much time. It is also evident that some of them have two works to provide family members with all necessities. Another plausible reason behind this trend can be individualism, mainly about younger members of the family. When technology, and social platforms came into the entire life of humans, they have been more predisposed to themselves, doing every single benefit for their own sake, they feel more delight.

However, they should also be ready for the disadvantageous effects of declined family dinners. First and foremost, with fewer gatherings, the social bond between family can be weakened and be a cause of break downs, not spending time alongside more. When the connection between people becomes less strong, it leads to misunderstanding each other and increases the distance between them. The feeling of isolation can be an additional adverse effect. At a time when family feasts are decreasing significantly, there are “several” members of the family who have been suffering from being estranged; they are the youngest and oldest ones who need more kindness, and attention from their loved ones. When their suppliers, in one word, do not pay attention adequately, so-called members are more likely to feel much stress and anxiety.

To conclude, these days family suppers are noticeably infrequent because of busy daily routines and personal autonomy, resulting in severe consequences, such as breaking down strong relationships along with solitariness.
