With the increased global demand for oil and gas, there is pressure to explore previously undiscovered areas of the world in order to access more resources. I strongly disagree with this approach. I believe that opening up these untouched lands could significantly contribute to global warming and air pollution.
It is widely acknowledged that the exploration of new territories by large corporations poses a serious threat to biodiversity. Contemporary technological advancements in extraction methods can have detrimental effects on both flora and fauna. The emission of harmful gases can inhibit plant growth and negatively impact wildlife. Given these circumstances, it is not surprising that we see an ever-increasing risk of extinction among various animal and plant species. For instance, in the past, people relied on wood for heating, and the burning of wood released harmful pollutants into the atmosphere, degrading air quality by as much as 35%.
The quest for eligible fossil fuel reserves such as oil and gas can lead to severe neglect of the environment. One notable consequence is the greenhouse effect, which results in catastrophic disasters, including global warming. Moreover, the consumption of energy resources continues to increase each year, which correlates with deforestation and the production of toxic gases by various industries. Research conducted by top institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, and MIT indicates that deforestation and industrial activities generate excessive CO2 emissions that contribute to global warming.
In conclusion, the pursuit of oil and gas should not justify the exploitation of new areas. Furthermore, society must seek to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. By doing so, we can decrease our demands and help ensure that nature remains sustainable, thus providing us with more reliable resources in the future.
