Many people believe that banning all types of advertisements would be beneficial for society because it is useless and can even be detrimental. From my perspective, I disagree with the idea of prohibiting all adverts.
On the one hand, advertisements have many advantages to society. First of all, it informs us about the choices we have. Advertising nowadays is believed as a key part of the modern business, because the companies need to tell customers about their products. Secondly, advertising is a creative industry that employs many people. Forbidding advertisements also means that more people would be unemployed. Beside those mentioned above, now advertising is also considered as a form of modern art.
On the other hand, advertising also has many drawbacks. Initially, advertising is known for manipulating people – it aims to persuade people that buying a product will make them happier. Subsequently, advertisers mostly focus on selling brands’ images, so that they often use glamorous, successful people. We now live in a consuming culture where we are influenced by adverts, and are persuaded to follow the latest trends. Last but not least, advertisers often aim their marketing at children, and this age group could easily be influenced by advertisements. Because of that, they usually put pressure on their parents to buy them things.
In conclusion, I believe instead of having a prohibition on all kinds of advertisements, governments should only censor false information of products that could be a risk to health and children.
