Band 7+: Parents have a responsibility to help children with their homework, but others believe children should do it on their own. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is commonly believed that parents are responsible to assist children with their assignments, while it is argued by others that youngsters have to do it by themselves. There are valid arguments on both sides of the issue, which will be examined below, along with my own perspective.

On the one hand, some believe parents have a responsibility to help with homework. Adults, who usually have more knowledge and life experience due to their education and age, are often better prepared to provide support. When children face difficulties understanding lessons, parents can simplify the material in simple ways and provide guidance during the process. For example, subjects such as mathematics, science, and literature can be challenging for children to understand, and parents can help explain these lessons more clearly. This not only helps children to improve their academic performance but also strengthens the parent-chil bond and creates a supportive learning environment at home.

On the other hand, others argue that children should do their lessons on their own. Doing homework independently builds responsibility and self-confidence. Children learn to manage their time, focus better, and try to solve problems without relying on others, which helps them become more disciplined. For instance, when a child finishes an assignment without help, they feel satisfied and become more independent. As a result, they develop essential life skills and feel more proud of their achievements, which motivates them to continue learning and growing.

In conclusion, while it is helpful for parents to guide children occasionally, I believe they should not do everything for them. A combination of support, which encourages both academic success and personal development, is the best way to help them grow.
