It is true that, throughout the world, the number of double-income families is rising exponentially. This brings up the debate whether housework should be split equally or not between 2 genders, and I strongly believe that it should be shared in the same quantity.
First off, we have to make clear that in modern days, traditional roles are no longer mandatory, some may even find them inappropriate and unacceptable. In the old days, wives are meant to finish household chores by themselves, with little or no help at all, sharing a household with their husbands will be considered lazy and improper. They were not allowed to participate in local events, and elections or have jobs at all. Men were considered as the breadwinner of the families, they rarely took roles in chores. This trend started to die out in the 19th century, as gender equality campaigns started to take off and until these days, have achieved major success. Both genders are now allowed to enroll in school and higher education, have proper jobs, and take notable positions in the industry or government, because of that, the workload of both males and females is equivalent, and housework could be separated into two equal parts.
Secondly, since the industrial revolution, machinery has been researched for easier and less tiring household chores. Automatic machines are now favoured in houses all around the globe, mostly because of their convenience, simplicity, and time-saving. Automatic washing machine saves time rubbing clothes, robots that can sweep houses, and a ton of other automatic devices that help household chores simpler. As a result of those conveniences, the list of housework tasks has shrinked significantly, therefore housework could be splited without complaints.
To conclude, based on the modern lifestyle and roles, as well as the improved machinery and life conditions, I firmly believe that household chores have to be shared equally between males and females.
