Some argue that governments should prioritize medical research to safeguard citizens’ health over environmental protection. While there are some benefits to this measure, I firmly believe that they should put equal financial focus on preserving our ecosystem as well as clinical research.
On the one hand, the option to provide more investment on medical research is attractive for several reasons. Firstly, prioritizing medical research point to the potential for breakthroughs in pandemics and disease treatment, which can save lives and improve the overall health of the population. Since funding for research into infectious diseases has led to the development of vaccines and treatments that have significantly reduced the impact of diseases such as covid-19. Furthermore, they argue that increased funding for medical research can enhance accessibility for individuals with disadvantageous socio-economic background by developing more affordable treatments and therapies. This, as a result, many residents would be saved from diseases.
On the other hand, despite the above-mentioned advantages, I believe that it would have more merits if the government spend equal money on environment. Initially, there is no doubt that investing in environment would lead to cleaner air and water so that mitigate the risk of respiratory diseases and other health problems. For instance, taking advantage of renewable energy sources and enhance waste treatments can improve air quality, resulting in reduceing rates of asthma, lung cancer, and other respiratory diseases. Additionaly, protecting the ecosystem helps preserve the biodiversity, which is crucial for maintaining a stable climate and protecting animals from being extinct. This, as a result, improves the resilience of our planet and contributes to the diversity of species.
In conclusion, while medical research is essential for addressing health challenges, it is also imperative to recognize the magnitude of environmental protection. Governments should prioritize both medical research and environmental protection, as investing in a healthy ecosystem is fundamental to safeguarding the long-term well-being of citizens.
