As the increasing number of car accidents is making people aware of being careful while driving a car, it is proposed to assess drivers’ competence by retaking a driving test annually. I totally disagree with this idea, and this essay explains why I think there are more efficient ways of addressing the problem, like educating pedestrians and ensuring individuals follow the rules on the road.
To begin with, some people claim that making drivers’ lisence expired every year creates opportunities to be informed with newly imposed laws associated with vehicles, and people who own a lisence, but has not monitored a car for a long time may find the task unforgotten, and face problems on the roads. Therefore, introducing this approach may bring about advantages that enhance the road system.
On the other hand, in my perspective, this practice may not act as effectively as informing all the individuals about bad consequences of not obeying policies. In other words, the majority of road incidents are caused by not only drivers’ carelessness, but also because of pedestrians’ fault. In addition, it is important to check whether all the people are aware of the rules that are introduced, and following them, since while moving on the roads drivers and other people who go on foot or by other modes of transportation need to abide the rules.
To conclude, it is true that annual assessments may be a good deterrent to road crimes, however I believe that better education will be more productive, as not only drivers make accidents happen. Moreover, if the solutions mentioned above are taken into action, the governments will enhance the situation in the near future.
