In this day and age, the role of sports has attracted significant public interest. Many individuals believe that sports games are essential to today’s society, although others argue that people should take those things as entertainment activities. This essay will address both perspectives and present my own viewpoint.
On the one hand, sports matches contribute to society’s economy. When a sports match is hosted in any country, although that country might have a drawback like spending more money to enhance infrastructures and recreations for fans who travel to meet their idols, this match might offer a country’s fascinating income when tourists are attracted by the sport event, after which travel to that country. Almost all individuals stay for a week, this is a benefit for local inhabitants. For example, the Olympics were hosted in Tokyo, not only beneficial for the government but also local residents who live near the stadium. They had more income by selling souvenirs for tourists, leading to enhancing their quality of life.
On the other hand, it is understandable why some people view sports purely as leisure activities. Firstly, hosting sports games can lead to environmental issues, such as pollution. It is common to observe littering after a sports match, which negatively impacts the local community. According to research, one ton of litter was collected in the stadium after the Olympics. Moreover, the focus on sports can divert attention and resources from other vital areas, like healthcare and education.
In conclusion, while hosting sports games can have drawbacks such as environmental pollution, I firmly believe that the economic benefits for the government and local inhabitants outweigh these disadvantages. Therefore, sports games play a crucial role in society beyond just being leisure activities.
