It is not difficult to realize that most of traffic problems in many major city are caused by lack of urban infrastructure investment. While many people agree with this point of view, others argue that other solutions are outweight. This essay will discuss both aspects and give my opinion.
On the one hand, it is the fact that desires for a private car, which leads to traffic congestion are higher due to the inconvenience of travelling by public transportation. Therefore, gorvernments should pay more attention to upgrade transportation infrastructure to make it be developed enough to accommodate such a growing number of private vehicles. Furthermore, in some countries where citizens are often commute by private cars or motorcycles, investing in public transportation systems such as subways, metros or underground systems by making people feel more comfortable and enjoy during their travel as their own cars. Additionally, it is nescessary to improve the convenient for passengers to go to their destinations by increasing more bus route and frequency. This leads to reducing the need for owning a private car. As a result, traffic jam will be became reduce.
On the other hand, other alternatives were given as better solutions. Firstly, they argue that governments should encourage citizens to use alternative means such as walking or bicycling by increasing vehicle tax or walking rewards to reduce car ownership and provide better pedestrian areas and bicycle lanes. Secondly, many opinions say that companies should cooperate with the gorvernment to address this issue by offering flexible working hour or different working hour for companies located in the same industrial park. If they can do that, they could contribute to reduce traffic congestion during peak traffic hours. Morover, they believe that traffic participants should also take responsibility for reducing traffic overload by advoiding going out during rush hours unless absolutely nescessary.
In my opinion, both of views has its advantages. Investing in urbarn infrastructure requires gorvernment effort whereas other alternatives need entire people join forces. No matter which way we choose, I believe it is not an easy path, it requires determination, perseverance and enduring change and effort of not only gorvernments but also entire citizens.
