Many people declare that the obesity crisis can be handled effectively by the rise in the sugar price. I firmly believe in this viewpoint because it can prevent customers from buying sugar-based products and it also motivates them to consume more healthy products.
Regarding the economic field, an increase in sugar price can reduce its consumption rates. Nowadays, raw sugar prices for production are cheap, leading to the minimal selling price for sweet foods. Consequently, customers can purchase and consume it easily without thinking twice, causing a significant increase in the obesity cases all over the world. Nevertheless, this problem can be solved by raising raw sugar costs, which forces most cooperations which use sugars as a main material for their products increase their price. As a result, it may prevent ordinary customers purchasing these foods and drop the obesity rates dramatically. For instance, if the sugar input price increase 15%, the output expense for it will need to be increased equally to gain enough revenue for manufacturers. It will be a big barrier for customers to buy it, resulting in different preferences for other options.
The rise in the price of sugar is also encouraging people to live a healthier life. At this day and age, fast foods and sugar-based products have a lower price compared to organic foods, which support customers to choose the first option due to affordable cost. However, if the sugar price is modified to equalize with organic products, purchasers can have more reasonable options to consider in their daily meals. Furthermore, customers who have weight and health issues may prefer to choose the later option because they want to improve their health status. Ultimately, consumers can build a healthy diet and life through just a small sugar price adjustment. For example, in Vietnam, the candies and the plant-based foods have the same prices; therefore, the Vietnamese mostly prefer to the second option due to their health awareness and reasonable costs for it. This attitude helps this country to have lower obesity rates compared with the USA or UK.
To sum up, a dramatic drop in the sugar price can control the crisis of obesity because people are prevented from consuming it due to an expensive price. Additionally, consumers can improve their health when the prices for healthy foods are the same as sugar-based goods.
