In the present time, some customers are less affected by advertising than in the past. There are some reasons for this. Personally, I think this can be beneficial.
On the one hand, commercial ads always highlight a product’s strength and ignore its weakness. That is why if a consumer blindly believe advertisements and buy the product without doing further research, they are likely to find out about its faults later and be dissapointed. One example of this is Apple iphones. People are excited to buy these smartphones after seeing so many adverts, only to find out later that the phones hardwaer compoments are practically glued toghether, making them extremely hard to fix once broken.
On the other hand, not all ads are accurate, some of them can even be deceiving. Unfortunately, this is often seen in the medical and education industry. Where pharmacial companies exatrerate medicine’s effects to sell more pills. Likewise, educational centers can also lie about teachers’ certificates to gain parents’ trust.
In my opinion, it is more advantageous for individuals nowadays to be less influenced by advertisements. Because now they will do more research before purchasing an item, such as looking up reviews, or ask for friends’ opinions. They are also less likely to be fooled by false advertisements.
To sum up, many people are now aware of advertisements’ downsides, such as bypassing the product’s flaws, or inaccurate information, which make them less influencial. I believe this is a positive development, because now customers are more careful when chosing what to buy.
