As advertisment grow, many argue that its important purpose is to sell unnecessary items to the customers while others believe that this is not the case. In my opinion, although selling of products is quite significant outcome of advertisement but it is not its major target due to other facotrs involved .
On the one hand,with the evolution of media in recent years major companies and organizations find it easy to target the audience to broadcast the catchy images,videos and messages related to the products in order to enhance their market.This in turn leads clients buying not only unnecessary things but also poor quality stuff after watching impressive and misleading ads.For example, increasing trend of online shopping motivates individuals to buy the products that cost quite high as compared to their actual worth.
On the other hand,there are many benefits of broadcasting if utlized positively.There have been multiple public service campaigns running throughout world,that involve media and advertise their messages for welfare of community.For instance, mass vaccination drives use advertisement as a tool to disseminate the information related to importance of immunization and other details related to sensitize community about its outcome on health of individuals. Moreover, ads provide a platform for advocacy in addition to raising awarness and acceptance regarding behaviour changes related to broader community interventions on issues including legal ,social and political matters
In summary, while generating profits could be a purpose of advertisement but it’s not only one , there are other significant impacts of media which are beneficial to masses such as conveying messages to public related to healthcare,law and order,social issues etc.It can serve the public better if used properly.
