Over time, people have observed that energy is everything. Some researchers around the world have found that energy consumption can be reduced by increasing the number of off days in a week. In this essay, I will discuss the merits and demerits of this development. I believe that the pros of this development outweigh the cons.
First of all, there are many advantages to closing offices for some days during the week. This development can significantly reduce energy consumption, such as electricity, water waste, and fuel costs. Secondly, having off days improves the productivity of employees and boosts their energy for the next workdays. For example, in Bangladesh, there are two off days in a week for government offices as well as some private companies. This arrangement does not negatively affect work efficiency; rather, it saves energy and encourages employees. The reason for this is that employees can spend more time with their families, which helps reduce family stress and workload. As a result, they return to work with greater motivation and capability.
On the flip side, this shortened workweek has a few disadvantages. Some companies face difficulties due to fewer weekdays, which can decrease work output and impact daily wages for employees. It is important to recognize that some companies have their own conditions and targets to meet within a specified period.
In conclusion, reducing energy costs by cutting office hours is one of the best strategies. Although there are minor disadvantages to this system, shortened workweeks can offer greater benefits to individuals and society.
