In this day and age, it is commonly true that the number of people living in homes with small or even no outdoor spaces is increasing due to a growing population in cities. While this tendency has some advantages, I believe that this is an overall negative development.
On the one hand, , there are a few benefits when people live in homes with small or no outdoor areas. Firstly, this type of houses are usually cheaper, so owners can save money for other needs. For example, instead of paying a high cost for accommodation, they can spend this money on travelling or living costs. Secondly, living in a house which has small or no outdoor spaces means that people can spend less time on maintaining and cleaning. They do not need to do gardening works like cutting grass or triming hedges, which can bring a lot of benefits for them in such a busy era.
On the other hand, I strongly believe that despite these advantages, this trend has more negative impacts on people. The first effect is that lack of outdoor spaces like balcony or garden may lead to many physical and mental problems. Having no outdoor areas means that people cannot easily access fresh air and sunlight, which help people reduce stress and feeling happy. Additionally, this trend can negatively affect children’s physical and social development. Young children especially need outdoor areas and safe spaces to play freely, run around, and explore, which is very difficult when they only live in a compact, indoor apartment unit.
In conclusion, while living in small homes without outdoor areas offers practical benefits like lower costs and easy maintenance, I believe this is an overall negative development because it seriously harms the mental and physical health and development of many city residents.
