Some people believe that teachers will be replaced by computers as technology is increasingly used in education and generally. Although technology has proven to function as a great tool that is able to improve the knowledge of students by facilitating access to information, teachers remain essential to effective education.
On the one hand, computers offer several advantages in the learning process. For example, students are able to download apps that can help them engage and have a better understanding of the topics presented in their classes, through videos and interactive activities, allowing them to focus while studying. In addition, educational softwares can track student’s progress and identify their strengths and weaknesses. As a result, learners can practise specific skills to improve their grades. Furthermore, technology allows students to continue their education online. Nevertheless, computers cannot replace human teachers.
On the other hand, teachers perform roles that computers are not able to. Firstly, teachers provide guidance, motivation, and emotional support, which are vital for students’ development. Moreover, they encourage discussion, teamwork, and critical thinking, skills that cannot be fully developed through screens and cannot be taught by artificial intelligence services such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Dola, etc. Furthermore, teachers can adjust their teaching methods to specific needs from each of their students, something technology is unable to do.
Overall, although computers play an important role in modern education, they cannot replace teachers. Instead, technology should be used as a tool to assist teachers rather than eliminate them. Therefore, teachers will continue to be a fundamental part of education.
