Nowadays, in our current situation in the world, people are becoming more and more lasier. Due to this, some are say that governments must make decisions about our lifestlyes. Others wish to express themselves by their own. Personally, I agree that our lifestyles shouldn’t be influenced for 2 reasons: necessity for a basic right of choice and possible risk of riots.
Firstly, if governments control our lifestyles, we will lose the basic right of choice, because it means that all other forms will be banned. Moreover, average happiness level will tank and this can lead to a country’s downfall. I’ll take North Korea as an example. This country forces people to have a certain lifestyle: preset job, daily praising of their president and so on. People are extremely unhappy and as of now, this causes the fertility rates to be at an all time low and the last can lead to the country’s extinction. What is more, the situation among the masses might escalate to a radical level and out of this, a new problem arises.
People during hard times get desperate, especially when they’ve got used to freedom. They think to themselves: “Why should I exactly obey the Government when they have gone too far?”. At first it may start as peaceful protests but sooner or later it may transform into an armed revolution. For example, in Russia, peasants have been oppressed for a long time and when the anger has reached the boiling point, the Revolution has occurred, in which people ended up overthrowing the tsarist regime.
To sum up, I can say that by taking away the basic human right of choice in form of influencing our lifestyles, governments also risk being overthrown by riots. Even though people agreed to give up some of their rights in exchange for protection, they can’t just sit back and watch as their are slowly becoming slaves.
