It is claimed that drivers who are caught driving while using substances should be penalized by not allowed to drive for the rest of their life, regardless of whether they caused any accidents. I totally agree with this view because driving when using drugs or alcohol is life threatening for road users and drivers, and such a ban is an effective way to reduce traffic accidents on the road.
Driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol is dangerous because it is not only risky for the drivers but also for other people driving on the same road. This means, when an intoxicated individual is unable to drive carefully, or safely, which may lead to traffic accidents, and when those people use the road, drivers and passengers may lose their lives. For example, Nepal traffic’s data revealed that the most of accidents occurred on roads during 2022, were because of intoxicated drivers. Therefore, restricting people who are driving when drinking or using drugs is the right decision to control traffic accidents.
Banning users from driving while using drugs and alcohol can minimize the number of accidents on roads. This is to say that, because of the stricter rules of traffic, such as banning driving for life, which is a very significant punishment, people will not drive when they are under the influence of these substances. As a result of this, fatalities related to intoxicated drivers would be eliminated. For instance, countries with capital punishment, have less crime rates than others who do not. Therefore, restricting offenders who use liquor and drugs is the best way to health with increasing traffic accidents.
To conclude, I believe drivers who use drugs and alcohol when driving their vehicle should be disallowed to drive for their whole life because it can cost the lives of people and drivers both. Also, this would discourage people from using such substances when they drive.
