The given pie charts provide data on the amount of energy production by various sources (oil, natural gas, coal, nuclear, hydro and other renewable) during the years in a country. Units are measured in percentage.
Overall, oil remained the dominant source of energy in 1985 and 2003, however, its contribution decreased considerably over time as well as nuclear energy. Conversely, natural gas, coal and other renewable energy experienced growth, while hydro energy remained respectively stable.
Starting with the drop figures, oil accounted for almost half of production (52%) at the beginning of the period, whereas it witnessed a substantial decrease to 39% in 2003. Similarly, the percentage of nuclear production fall dramatically from 22% to 8% between the years. The amount of hydro unchanged and stood at 4% in both years.
Turning to the other sectors, natural gas and coal, which had comprised a minority of production, being responsible for 13% and 8%, nevertheless both these figures had a dramatic increase to 23% and 22% accordingly. In contrast, other renewable sources saw just a minimal growth of 3% from 1985 to 2003.
