These years many governments spend their budget in rebuilding historical sides. I completely agree with the idea that there are not waste of money, but instead they are good investment for the future, and that funds shouldn’t be spend on building new residential facilities and roads.
I believe that governments’ funds should be spend on upgrading historical areas, as along with preserving our rich history, they can be best tourist attractions. In many countries, tourists always visit, ancient buildings, sites and buy some souvenirs, foods, dresses, book local hotel or take a guided tour. And eventually, the increase in tourist spending can improve country’s GDP, also high demand for the services creates lots of job opportunities for local people, which reduces the unemployment level. Moreover, from the income governments can build roads, houses. For example, many reconstructed building in Uzbekistan are located in Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva, and they are also best tourist destinations in Uzbekistan. Every year they receive millions of visitors all over the world. Recently, they did some residential developments, such as building roads, bridges and apartments, and they were all built from the cities’ profits from tourism.
There are several reasons why housing and road developments should be less supported financially by governments. Firstly, building new roads and accommodations from scratch can cost way more expensive and some countries can’t afford it, and it may cause inner and outer state debts. Secondly, as many new buildings will be constructed, a large amount of raw materials like cement, iron and etc. will be used, and it can cause resource shortage in the future. Finally, many buildings block or shorten the green spaces, which leads to more carbon emission, as they are less plants that change CO2 into oxygen. For instance, in Tashkent, there were lots of constructions and removal of trees between 2017 and 2024, and eventually Tashkent became the most toxic and polluted city in the world.
In conclusion, my view is that governments should spend money on remaining the history, that is benefitual for every one, and it is wrong to waste resources on projects that kills the nature.
