In many countries, people face challenges with managing packaging. Some individuals argue that industries can have a significant impact on reducing packaging waste, while others suggest that avoiding products with excessive packaging is the best solution. In this essay, I will explore both perspectives and present my own opinion.
To begin with, manufacturers and supermarkets are major sources of packaging production in our society. Decreasing the amount of packaging used can help reduce overall waste. Additionally, switching to environmentally friendly materials, such as paper instead of plastic, can aid in packaging reduction efforts. For example, in Rwanda, the government has prohibited the use of plastic packaging, leading to significant environmental improvements. This makes Rwanda one of the cleanest countries in the world.
Another approach involves consumers discouraging factories from using excessive packaging by opting not to purchase products with unnecessary packaging. When companies notice a decline in sales due to excessive packaging, they may promptly reduce or eliminate the packaging. Furthermore, customers can choose to remove products from packaging immediately after purchase and leave excess packaging at the store, prompting companies to reconsider their packaging practices.
While manufacturers and supermarkets play a crucial role in minimizing packaging waste, I believe that consumers also have a vital part to play in reducing packaging in our communities.
