Two maps below illustrate the changes in the Sawry District neighbourhood from 1920 to the present.
Overall, it is clear that the neighbourhood experienced significant changes in infrastructure, buildings and facilities over the given period.
In 1920, the Sawry District was situated between Miller’s lake and Elmwood river, with a small beach in the East.A housing estate was located near a Northern part of the neighbourhood, with a few houses next to the Oak Avenue. Moreover, the single shop for residents is also located next to that area, between the remaining two houses. In the Western part of the given area are located Prestwich primary school for residents’ children and Tulebug Bros. Company. Both places were separated by the Oak Avenue.
At the present, the Sawry District neighbourhood saw a lot of significant changes, especially regarding local facilities. Firstly, new apartments are built, indicating a population increase. However, the number of houses decreased slightly. While some of them are located in the Eastern part, the other remaining two are situated in the North, next to a road that leads to a bridge and bike path. One of the important changes is the replacement of the Tulebug Bros. Connery with a Yang Office company.Furthermore, the opposed to it site of primary school became a Lonoco Petrol Station. The Prestwich primary school changed its place, and is situated next to the current housing estate. Besides, it is shown that the amount of trees decreased slightly over the years.
